Scaling and root planing take place in two steps. First, Dr. Kim will remove your plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line. He’ll make sure to clean out the full pocket of your gum. Once the entire tooth is clean, the root planing takes place, which smooths out the roots of your teeth to help the gums reattach.
